I had two days off in between my old [full time] job and my new [full time] job. So my partner in adventure and I took a spontaneous trip to Milwaukee, WI. Cause Double Income No Kids = DINK!
One of things thing I love most about Luke is our passion for travel, and trying anything new. I’d never been to Milwaukee and it’s a mere hours north of Chicago. We had a total blast.
Here’s to many more adventures…

Someone pinch me. I can’t believe this happened.
I received an email last week, when I was (truthfully) feeling pretty insecure about my work and wanting to be “better” or have the time to dedicate myself in networking, growing, and taking on more weddings. See a recent Leap Year Project post and 2014 goal post for more on that contant battle. Anyways, the email was from a Huffpost Weddings editor, asking permission to use an image from Sarah and Morgan’s December 14, 2013 wedding. I said yes, did a happy dance by myself, and definitely squealed with excitement when telling my husband.

Now time to reset myself and confidence in trusting that I can do this…little by little, step by step.
Sarah initially reached out to me in a typical fashion through markit’s say hello page. But the note included that her favorite song was by Neko Case so I knew I wanted to meet this girl and fast. We exchanged a few hilariously witty emails and met for coffee to dish about the wedding, photography, and her fiancé Rob. Shortly after, I received an exciting email from her wanting to book markit photography. Insert happy dance!
Shortly after we planned on a February 1 engagement session at and around their Rogers Park apartment, not realizing the snow Chicago would bring that morning. Uncharacteristically though, the temperature was around 30 and “tolerable” to shoot outside. So we began the shoot inside their adorable apartment, followed by a trek through the snow, around the neighborhood, even braving the beach. By the time we hit the beach, we could no longer feel our fingers. I’m so thrilled with this shoot, as winter session are sometimes difficult with mother nature typically against you. But couldn’t be happier with the results and the joy in working with such a hilariously fun couple.
The two will be wed this November at Architectural Artifacts and I can’t wait to celebrate with them!

I’ve certainly browsed this entire site when searching for inspiration, both for photography and our own wedding. Excited to and grateful support this blog and see what doors may open with this fantastic opportunity!
The year of my own wedding and so much more. Business and client experience development, improved packages, the greatest clients (see below) and truly refining my photography style and approach.
I also think I have 2013 to thank for what looks like markit photography’s busiest upcoming season this year. But more to come on that later.
I thought I’d start off this post with a recap of my 2013 goals and see where I ended up.
I’m going to make this section of goals for the new year short and sweet. Because while it’s turing into our most successful year I need to remained focused on ONE thing.
I’m going to be honest with you here. I have a naturally restless heart. I also have a heart and mind that is constantly comparing myself to others. In all walks of life. But in this case, photography-wise, I must stop comparing my style to others. I must stop being envious of the images that my favorite photographers produce, wondering if I’ll ever get there. Sifting through the latest Southern Weddings magazine wondering why I even bother. Wondering how “johnny photographer” has 1,000 likes on facebook. Wishing I could begin shooting film but knowing I don’t have to time to dedicate and practice. Just STOP Kristi. It’ll get you no where in your business and personal growth. Realize and be thankful of where you are in life, a wife and full time account manager in this beautiful city, and being content with the amount of weddings I can take on. Stay content with where our life is, knowing it’s right where we should be, and and total blessed life at that. I never want to stop growing or improving my skills as a photographer, but I should never expect it to happen overnight, or consider quitting because “sally photographer” is “way better”. Take the growth in strides, recognize how far this little biz has come, and be excited to continue learning and growing.
