Blog

Absolutely honored to announce that our marsala and copper winter wedding styled shoot has been featured on Ruffled! A DREAM blog, one I’ve admired for years.

This is one of my absolute favorite collarborative shoots I’ve worked on and I’m honored to share this with such a solid group of wedding professionals in the Chicagoland area. See the original post here for additional image and more details.

Thank you again to the team for making this possible, it was such a dream to see every little planned detail come together. xo

Just before our vacation across the globe, a very exciting shoot was featured on one of my absolute favorite blogs, Green Wedding Shoes, just in time for March Madness. While I didn’t have time to put a full post together I knew I wanted to complete one upon our return to highlight some of my favorite details from this brilliant shoot. Composed by my sister-in-law Laura of Ashton Events.

About a year ago, Laura and I had the idea of doing a “tomboy” styled shoot. As self-proclaimed tomboys ourselves, growing up with brothers (who knew one day I’d marry one of hers) and growing up with a ball in our hand or at our feet, we knew it’d be the perfect fit for us.

Turns out, it was a perfectly challenging fit. Because the term “tomboy” or even “all american” didn’t exist in weddings! It proved difficult to pull ideas and inspiration together. Enter: Laura’s creative brilliance and team of all stars (no pun intended).

When I arrived on that warm and windy Florida day in November, to an adorably deserted basketball court, took one look at that cutomized logo and bracket seating chart, I knew this was a shoot and memory I’d forever hold in my heart.

See the post here from Laura, and here from GWS. I hope you enjoy my set of images to highlight. It was truly impossible to pick just 2 or 3, so give it a nice scroll! I hope it bring some ideas to other fellow tomboys out there! xo

From now (March 20, 11:41am) to April 1 we will be off fulfilling a dream traveling Thailand to fulfill one of our big “hoorahs” together as a married, kidless, couple. It’s been on our travel bucket list since before we were dating so we’re making it happen. Follow along on instagram for live updates and be on the lookout for multiple blog posts upon our return!

Agenda:

  • March 21, Land in Bangkok
  • March 22, Night train to Chiang Mai
  • March 23-26, Explore Chiang Mai
  • March 26, Flight to Krabi and Ferry to Koh Lanta
  • March 26-29, Explore Koh Lanta (plus day trip to Koh Phi Phi)
  • March 29, Flight to Bangkok
  • March 30, Leave for home (with a 20-hour layover in Hong Kong…for more exploring)

Love to you all! xo

Someone pinch me. Or really I’m just going to keep pinching myself.

It has been so hard not to show you every. little. detail. from this shoot I did with a wicked team in Florida back in November. Equipped with my sister-in-law Laura with Ashton Events leading the charge in design and florals. Followed by numerous hands (one of which being our other sister-in-law Melissa!) jumping in with their talents, products, keen eye for detail, and the most gorgeous couple up for anything. The bride wore a racer-back customized dress, and the groom wore robin’s egg Chuck Taylors. Forget it. So many memories build on that windy, but warm, southern day with those I love most. Doing what I love most. With two tomboys dreaming up this shoot, I knew it was going to be filled with memories playing tennis together not knowing someday we’d be sisters.

In perfect timing, our “All American Tomboy” inspiration shoot has been featured on Green Wedding Shoes, to kick off the first day of March Madness no less. While I plan to do a formal post upon our return from vacation, I will leave you with the below preview and link to the direct GWS feature.

Rewind about three months ago when Elaina of Boutique Bites followed up with an inquiry I sent through The Everygirl for an open position they had. From there we talked about my potential employment with Boutique Bites managing their Marketing and Web efforts. After visiting their perfect new, brick and white-walled event space in the Fulton Market, I knew this was a connection I’d always be grateful for.

The fast forward about two months and we reached out to Elaina to use the space for our winter-themed inspriation shoot. And, as assumed, it provided just the perfect backdrop for our shoot. And, as assumed, my adoration for Elaina and her team only flourished. Shortly thereafter, Elaina reached out to me to shoot her mother’s surprise birthday party and I immediately said “Yes!”. With catering from her team, their new space Brique, and florals from Oliver Dogwood, it’s yet another example of collaboration and attention to details we all drool over.

So sit back, get your pinterest button ready for party inspiration and enjoy her mother’s adorable reation to the surprise. xo

I have so much to thank Christine with Dabble Me This for. One is the introduction to the Photography Stylistas. We are a team of photographers who are inspired by all that is weddings, and put together styled shoots 2-3 times per year. This time, I had the opportunity to team up with our group for one of the most stunning, eye-catching, winter-themed shoots I’ve ever seen, let alone coordinated. The fun and encouragement these ladies provide is something I’ll be forever grateful for and hope I can pass along to others in this creative journey.

Now for the shoot. What started as a pinterest board came together in a way I can’t even describe. There’s a giddiness that comes with seeing everything, all the details you’ve been working on the past three months, come together. Brique is a new Chicago venue, managed by the team behind Boutique Bites, and provide the perfect, naturally lit, blank canvas for our elements to be hosted within. Laura with Accent on Events supported our tablecape design and linens, Alliance Bakery contributed the most killer naked cake, and the shoot would not have been possible without everything tying together with florals from Oliver Dogwood Co.

This shoot has left an imprint in my mind as one of those pivotal shoots you walk away from thinking, “I live for this stuff”. Not to mention the memory I now have seeing my own wedding dress on a bride again, so dang special.

While Chicago is approaching a cold snap this week, sit back and enjoy this warm, winter beauty from the comfort of your computer at home.
