Downtown weddings, the best! Loved every single thing about this wedding…

I started chatting with Laura nearly a year ago when their wedding was planned for Addison Grove in Austin. After a few months, she and Matt realized it didn’t feel right and quickly found a new venue in Dallas, where they currently live. After arriving to 400 North Ervay for a little pre-wedding scouting, we fell head over heels in love with the simplicity and beauty of the rooftop setting. It immediately felt so Matt and Laura.

And it so was. From the warm welcome hugs received from both Matt and Laura, to their unique ceremony moment of speaking to each member of the bridal party (so many tears), and their sunset first dances. I can’t imaging a more perfect day for these two, their families, closest friends, and for us to capture. It certainly rekindled my love for city weddings, and reminded me just how wonderful my couples are and the gift that comes with joining them in such an involved, intimate role. Matt and Laura, I can’t thank you enough for your friendship and all around goodness you bring to those who know you. You two are the best!

Am I the only one that, when the holidays roll around, realize I really don’t need anything. Like at all. And my family has felt the same way the past few years. So instead we’ve done family trips lately. And this year, Sedona, AZ. Hiking, board games, VRBO house, stargazing, good food, massages, Jeep Tours, et all.

Below is a snip of our long weekend together. From Indiana, Michigan, and Tejas we all gathered packing casual clothes, no make up, Chacos, yoga pants, and all the Patagona. It was chillier than we expected, but perfect for a long, sunny hike!

Y’all, I really can’t get enough of this industry. Sometimes, it’s exhausting and so difficult. But more often than not, I work with couple that become friends. Families I’ll never forget, bridal parties I want to hang out with at an after party. I have been lucky enough to book not one but two additional weddings from bridesmaids in Holly and Michael’s Round Rock wedding last April. First Alex and Jordan, and now the incredibly endearing and adorable John and Sarah. How did I get so lucky…

John and Sarah, along with this entire gang I’ve gotten to know, attended A&M and had been dating for a few years before John popped the question during a hike at Red Bud Isle. John lives in Austin, and Sarah is moving here a few months before their wedding. We took the opportunity to run around the outskirts of downtown Austin, capturing it’s skyline, architecture, and greenery. All within a 4-6 block radius. Reinforcing why I love this city, and couples like these two who are “up for anything”.

Sarah and John are celebrating their wedding this June at Barr Mansion and it’s truly a gift to know I’ll be there to capture all the little details and moments as they unfold.

I can’t imagine a couple more loving, selfless, and giving. I have known these two (and their families) separately since I was a kid, and knew as soon as I heard they were dating, that it was forever. I shot Kaity’s Senior pictures around downtown Chicago what feels like eons ago. Back when she was just the most mature 18-year old you’ll ever know. The first time I met Kaity I just figured she was in my grade and I’d somehow never met her before, nope. A mature, old-soul, with a hilarious wit and love for supporting and teaching kids with Autism. She’s something special that girl.

And she married sweet, “little” Justin. The youngest of four, in a family I’ve known almost since I’ve had memories. I grew up playing soccer with his oldest sister, and remember Justin running around also playing soccer, forever “little” in my mind. Justin loves with his whole heart, and loves Kaity to the fullest with that heart. Their hand-written vows spoke of just that. Their wedding touched every single person, myself included. So many tears, so many laughs and personal touches. Right down to the train station reception where Kaity’s grandfather used to work.

To Kaity and Justin, I have confidence in your love for Jesus, each other, and the covenant of marriage. I can’t wait see where life takes you next. Knowing you’ll have the best partner in life to do it alongside! xo

Keeping that bucket list checked.

Since we live thousands of miles away from family, and since we were spending two weeks in the Midwest for the holidays just a few weeks later, we decided to ditch Thanksgiving and spend it in a rainy, cooler place, Seattle and Vancouver. Vancouver being one of our shared “bucket list” destinations.

We flew into Seattle and stayed for just over 24 hours, and all of those 24 rained…of course. We toured the city checking out the “hot spots” including the Pike Place Market, original Starbucks (underwhelming IMO), walked Capitol Hill, and saw the Space Needle. Once our dear friend, Mallory, got off work she met us for a drink at a few of her go-to places.

The next morning, Thanksgiving, we took a bus from Seattle, crossed the Canadian border, got dropped off in the heart of downtown Vancouver, and immediately found a local place for some warm and yummy ramen. Afterwards, we walked up Robson Street and grabbed a drink while we wait for our adorable Airbnb to be ready. The next day (no rain!) we rented bikes and took a long ride around Stanley Park, pictured below. After that, we walked to a few second hand stores, then across the bridge to Granville Market (so kitch-y and cute) and ate some of the best fish and chips we’ve ever had at Go Fish. Just a little hut on the water that served fish caught and purchased that morning. Yum.

Day 3 was spent walking all around Gastown, the cutest neighborhood in Vancouver. It rained all day but we didn’t care. We stumbled upon boutiques, restaurants, and coffee shops and ended the evening at one of the best restaurants we found, Tuc Craft Kitchen, and did an escape room with a bunch of strangers because…well we’re obsessed with escape rooms.

Day 4, Whistler and Joffre Lakes. A dream. We rented a car and made the beautiful 1.5 hr drive north to Whistler. Instead of rain, they had snow. And so much of it. Whistler is like a little snow globe of a fake town, where the wealthy gather to escape with their friends and family and experience some of the best skiing North America has to offer. After opting out of skiing, we decided to go snowmobiling (my first time!) instead. So after signing up, we had 2.5 hours to kill and quickly made our way to Joffre Lakes. Another hour north of Whistler. This was my “must” for our trip to Vancouver. We had just a half hour to see the lake, snap 100 quick pictures and get back in time for our incredible snowmobile trip along the mountains of Whistler, where I swear they filmed The Revenant.

More to come as our travel itch continues to be scratched, but until then enjoy some of the highlights from our trip and never hesitate to reach out with tips or questions! xo

Same as my 2015 post, it doesn’t quite feel like the holidays down south. We did get into the 40s here and even felt some frost (yay!) but nothing like my northerners getting inches of snow. I can’t freakin wait.

Luke and I leave tomorrow for a 2-week stay in Indiana visiting our families and friends. I’ll also have the joy and excitement shooting a friend’s wedding on December 17th, my last of the season!

And while this season is more for seeing our nieces and nephews, and our pup experiencing snow for the first time, I wanted to share some ideas I had for gifts to share with the loved ones in your life as well.

Merry Christmas to each of you! So grateful for you all. xo
